Thanksgiving day is the holiday of peace
Thanksgiving day is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life… a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year – and the deep, deep connection of all these things with God.
– Ray Stannard Baker (David Grayson)
Gratitude is not a spiritual
“Gratitude is not a spiritual or moral dessert which we may take or push away according to the whims of the moment, and in either case without material consequences. Gratitude is the very bread and meat of spiritual and moral health, individually and collectively. What was the seed of disintegration that corrupted the heart of the ancient world beyond the point of divine remedy…? What was it but ingratitude?”
At Grandma’s House
At Grandma’s House I like the taste of turkey Any time throughout the year But it never seems to taste as good As when Thanksgiving’s here. Could be it’s all the trimmings That are cooked with it to eat- But I think it’s eating at Grandma’s house That makes it such a treat!
It is literally true
It is literally true, as the thankless say, that they have nothing to be thankful for. He who sits by the fire, thankless for the fire, is just as if he had no fire. Nothing is possessed save in appreciation, of which thankfulness is the indispensable ingredient. But a thankful heart hath a continual feast.
– W.J. Cameron
Thank you for the gift of life
Thank you for the gift of life, For letting me be me, For all that I can know by words And all that I can see, For all the music I can hear And all the songs I sing, For all the joy that comes to me And all the joy I bring, For all the food that I can taste And all the sweet scents smell, For all the loved ones I can touch, Who love and wish me well, For all the beauty of the world, Ever fresh and new, I don’t know whom else I can thank, And so I’m thanking you.
Thank you for the harvest
Thank you for the harvest and the healing,
Health, wealth, hunger, all the goods of Earth,
All that we inherited at birth,
Need, joy, love, pain, grief, desire, feeling.
Know that we are grateful for our being,
Singing silent praises in our hearts,
Giving in the temples of our arts
Invocations to the act of seeing.
Vain though it may be to think you’re hearing,
In us there is an ancient urge to speak,
Not for any answers that we seek,
Glad just to converse — like love, like breathing.
The funny thing about Thanksgiving
The funny thing about Thanksgiving, or any huge meal, is that you spend 12 hours shopping for it and then chopping and cooking and braising and blanching. Then it takes 20 minutes to eat it and everybody sort of sits around in a food coma, and then it takes four hours to clean it up.
I love chicken
I love chicken. I would eat chicken fingers on Thanksgiving if it were socially acceptable.
Happy moments, praise God
Difficult moments, seek God
Busy moments, bless God
Quiet moments, worship God
Waiting moments, trust God
Painful moments, touch God
Lovely moments, thank God
Heap high the board
Heap high the board with plenteous cheer
And gather to the feast,
Toast the sturdy Pilgrim band
Whose courage never ceased.
3.Everyone who can recognize caring kindness, and generosity
